Medicinal Chemist

This role calls for a laboratory based skilled synthetic organic chemist. Key aspects of the role are the small to medium scale synthesis of new molecular entities for drug discovery programmes.

The candidate will be highly skilled in the synthesis of multiple chemotypes and have a track record of successful examples of synthesis using a variety of chemical methods. The candidate must be able to think and work with a high degree of independence, to rationally design novel drug targets based on independent interpretation of SAR and pharmacokinetic data, and design novel experimental routes. A track record in medicinal chemistry, the utilization of computational chemistry and knowledge of drug discovery science are also desirable attributes. A basic understanding of biology and the Respiratory and GI disease areas would be an advantage.

As part of a multidisciplinary team the Medicinal Chemist should have an excellent teamwork ethos and strong communication and presentational skills.

Minimum of first degree level (MSc., MChem., BSc(Hons) or equivalent) in chemistry and have a keen interest in medicinal and practical synthetic organic chemistry is expected for this position. Relevant postgraduate and / or industrial experience would be an advantage.
